The details
The Public Laze never pretended to fly.
It roosted on the same cracked block stamped MADE IN CHINA, one eye rolling, the other half-shut in permanent disinterest. Wings heavy with dollar signs, golden arches, and empty smiles. A burger slumped beside a spilled Liberty Cola that no one moved to wipe.
It spoke only in one-liners, each flatter than the last:
“Not my problem.”
“Tax free while the watching lasts.”
“Denied is just another word for later.”
“I used to be an eagle. Now I’m public domain.”
“Smile. The logo still needs the light.”
Crowds passed, took pictures, and left the mess exactly where they found it. The Laze stayed put, perfectly content to be the national bird of looking the other way.
